DIRTY 30!!!

For our 30th birthdays, my best friend and I decided to celebrate in Hawaii. (Her birthday is just 3 days before mine.) Unfortunately, we didn't get to spend much time together there, but I wasn't going to let that bring down my birthday celebration. Janice, Mae Mae and I definitely had our share of island fun.

DAY 1, February 8

We all bought our tickets at different times, but Mae Mae and I ended up on the same flight and Janice arrived shortly before us. Mae Mae and I arrived at Gate 8 ("8 is great!" If you didn't know * is my favorite number, so this just felt right.)

Janice was kindda on the other end of the airport, so we met up and decided to try to get our rental car a day early. When I got to the counter, the lady told us that we reserved for the smallest car. We obviously were ok with that, it was just the three of us. But, as she handed me the keys, she told me, "I gave you a different car," and winked. When I looked at the key she handed me, I noticed that it was an electric key. We arrived at the car to find that she upgraded us to a Dodge Charger. Whoa! Happy Birthday to me!
Off to the hotel we went. As we arrived at the hotel my sister reminded me that I stayed at this hotel with my cousins when it was an Outrigger. Kindda funny! So I checked in and handed the man my free hotel upgrade voucher. (I got in when I made the reservation for tweeting that I was staying there.) He upgraded us to a Jr. Suite with two balconies. Woo hoo!! And what do you know, we were on floor 8 ("8 is great!").

The sun was going down, so we headed over to Ala Moana and did a little shopping. Later that night we walked the strip and celebrated my birthday at Hula Grill and of course shared the famous Hula Pie.

DAY 2, February 9

We woke up early and drove out to Boots and Kimos. If you go to Hawaii and don't go here at least one day for breakfast, kick yourself NOW! Best breakfast spot on the island. We had to get the famous banana pancakes with macadamia sauce, 2 orders for us. And we got corned beef hash and a Portuguese sausage omelet.

After, we picked up a snack and headed over to the beach. The sun was out and we wanted to get some color. Melody met up with us and after we took the car to the Walmart to get goodies to bring back home. Sooo much cheaper than the ABC store. lol
We dropped Dee off at her hotel and went back to ours to freshen up before dinner. We decided to go to Duke's, but on the way there we noticed that there was a farmer's marker in the International Market Place and we decided to get a little of everything and ate there instead. Yummy!!!

That night, my friend Leslie, picked up Mae Mae and me and we had a few drinks in The Modern Lobby. Gorgeous hotel, by the way. We even ventured over to Addiction, the club in the hotel, to see what it was about. There were only a few people in there b/c it was a Thursday, but it was nice to see. The decor. The

DAY 3, February 10

We made plans with my friend Kyle to go over to North Shore for the day. We picked up his friend John and we were on the way. We sat on the beach for a little bit and watched the surfers, as we lounged in the sand. The sand at North Shore is less gritty than normal sand and didn't stick to us like the sand in Waikiki.

Then it was off to get some lunch at a shrimp truck of course. No we didn't go to Giovanni's, apparently that one is over rated and the last couple of times Kyle John went, it was over cooked. They took us to a different one, Kahuku Shirmp. The verdict: HELLA good!!! If it wasn't so far away from Waikiki, I'd hit this spot up again and again!! And of course, we had to hit up Matsumoto for some shave ice.

We headed back to Waikiki and of course hit up the beach again!!! While walking back home, we found another farmer's market and decided to walk around again. We got some fresh fruit, and Janice picked up some kind of flavored peanut butter from the same lady that I bought lilikoi honey from at the first farmers market. I have no idea what we did for dinner.
That night we took at taxi over to Ala Moana mall and went to Mai Tai's to start up our night and met up with Janice's friend Brenda. Leslie met us there too and then we all went to The Standard. We spent the majority of the night there and I ran into two of my college friends too. I totally forgot Felicia told me she was going to be there.

We then went to some random after hours spot that some how had a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge behind the bar. Obviously, we HAD to take a picture of that.

Then it was off for some late night eats at Like Like. Hahaha!! Watch my youtube video for some pretty funny footage there. Mae Mae had a fan!

DAY 4, FEBRUARY 11
We got a little breakfast at good ol' Mickey D's and then headed over to the Aloha Stadium for the swap meet. This was the day we finally decided to try out the Taro Pie. And to our surprise it was really good. Not too sweet, more on the savory side.

There were a couple of things that we all wanted to look for at the swap meet. I got an extra luggage bag to load all my extras in for only $12. Mae Mae bought hella shirts for her parents. We both got bracelets and we all got li hing candy. lol Oh yeah, we ended up parking by gate 8 again!! ("8 is great!") We just made one round and it was my goal to find the coconut guy! We found him about half way through and of course I had to get me some fresh coconut milk. After I drank it all, I had him machate that sucker open so I could eat the meat. I tried to get some footage of it.

(this pictue wasn't from the coconut man, but they were hella big so i took a picture)

Then, of course, it was off to the beach. I have no idea again what we did for dinner this night.
Later that night, we met up with Leslie at The Modern again. We sat in the lobby and enjoyed a few drinks. One of the dudes from Like Like was there too. We chatted it up with him a bit. And then it was off to Addiction. We definitely had some entertainment there. I tried to get some footage of it, but it was too dark. This old man and a hooker were getting it on in the VIP area. But we had fun and danced the night away.

DAY 5, FEBRUARY 12

Janice was leaving, so we went to Denny's for our last breakfast together. And we walked the strip to grab a few last minute goodies for her friends.
Mae Mae and I tried to hit up the beach, but it kept raining on us, so we decided to walk around instead. We then parted ways, I went to meet up with Dee to get a massage and Mae went to meet up with her family.
After the massage, Dee and I met up with my friend from high school, Joanne. We had dinner at Uncle Bo's and simply enjoyed each other's company. I also got to meet Joanne's adorable son. He was so smart and well behaved, reminded me of my goddaughter.

After dinner, Dee and I were on a mission to find some random fanny pack for my dad. And picked up a couple last minute goodies.
Mae and I spent the rest of night, packing and repacking her things to make sure she had room in her luggage. Apparently, her uncle had given her even more chocolate and more shirts.

When me and Dee got back to the hotel, one of the two elevators was broken and there were sooo many people waiting for the elevator, we decided to take the stairs. Haha for two girls that workout regularly, this was a chore. Lol

DAY 6, February 13

When I woke up, Mae was already gone. So I ventured over to McDonalds again, had me a Portuguese sausage breakfast and a taro pie.

I had some time so I just walked around. And, I remembered that I didn't have any airplane clothes. I remembered seeing some store with some UH gear so I walked around and found it. I bought me a pair of UH sweats. I've worn them everyday since. lol I FREAKING LOVE SWEATS! And new ones just feel SOOOO GOOD!
I have to give a BIG BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU to my sister, Janice, my cousin Mae Mae, Leslie, Kyle, Joanne and Dee for helping me make my birthday extra DIRTY! It would have been the same without you guys!!
Stay tuned for my youtube video!

whoa first juicing disaster

WHOA! First juicing disaster!!! YUCK!!!

So, I know that I don't really like beets, but I was willing to try it out in some juice. But, I was a little overzealous with this one.

I used one beet and the leaves. And a whole bunch of other stuff.

I even added a lemon in afterward to try to counterbalance the taste. And then I thought, "Ok maybe this needs to be cold." So, I place it in the fridge and tried it again today. BLEH!!! Holy freaking moly that is earthy! You can't even taste anything else.

I'm definitely going to have to work on my beet ratios. My friend told me this morning that she heard I should only use half. Well my friend looks like I'm gonna start even smaller than that!

Juice 01.31.12

About 2.5 stalks of celery
1/2 cucumber
2 leaves of kale
2 oranges
Handful of raspberries
4 carrots
About 1 cup of spinach
About 1/2 inch of ginger (this was a little strong, so you might want to use less or omit it)
After I took this picture, I decided to add 5 strawberries
And a lemon that I had squeeze out earlier...might as well use it all
