Too Pretty Brand

So I came across this brand on ig.  They liked one of my pictures, so I initially perused through it.  I liked the saying and had all intention of buying a shirt but they didn't have my size.  The one I wanted read, "Never too pretty to hit like a boy."    I found myself every so often wandering back to their page.  So, one night I had time and I actually read through the website, read about the founder Cary Williams and loved what I read.  She totally understood me, as a girl that also identifies with fighters, and being athlete in general.

And then I saw a link that said "Athlete Search."  Soooo, I decided to try.  I'm hoping I get it!

Here's what I answered for "Why would you be a good athlete for Too Pretty Brand?"

I'm a very active person in multiple sports.  And, I'm dedicated to everything I do.   Rarely do I ever miss hitting the gym and when I do, people tend to notice and ask me if something's wrong.  Although I think this is pretty funny, and have to giggle when this happens (because it's usually because a meeting ran long or maybe I needed a rest day), it shows that people recognize how committed I am.

And not only am I committed to myself, I love supporting my teams.  With my fellow fighters, I may not be the first person you see when you enter the ring, but you'll definitely hear me cheering you on.  I try to make it to every fight I can, whether I'm fighting or not.  With my runs, if I'm on the course with you and we happen to pass each other, I make sure to give some encouraging words.   If I'm not on the course, I'll be on the side maybe even with a sign to show my support.

I love what the Too Pretty Brand stands for.   When I read, that Cary was told she was too pretty to fight, but fought like a boy, I chuckled because I've been told the same thing.  When I was first told that I was too pretty to fight, I was a bit perplexed because I didn't know how to feel about the comment.  I had to think to myself, "Are you complimenting me or are you insulting me? "  And then I felt empowered.  Empowered because I knew behind this "pretty" face is also a "pretty" heavy kick.  I love the fact that she knows we don't have to sacrifice our femininity in order to be strong athletes.

military boots

Again with another super duper late post. Oh well.

So, I was looking for some military boots for quite awhile. I almost got some Doc Martens, but they just weren't the look I was looking for. And then I came across these wine colored military boots by Steve Madden. I fell in love. But I sure the hell didn't fall in love with the price. At $100 I had to pass. And after I seen the wine color in person, I wasn't so pleased with the tone. So, I would've gone with black if anything.

But, again, Target came to the rescue. I've had pretty good luck finding boots during the Fall and Winter season in the past years, so I just had to check. And looky looky what I found. I was able to find these. And, I happened to find my size in store. They were meant to be. Here's how I wore them when I wore them for the first time.

(Please excuse the exploding gym bag.)

Halloween 2013

Well this post is about a couple of weeks late, but I haven't been posting much and I am still quite pleased with my make shift Minnie Mouse costume, so better late than never right? Right!

Well, my cousin Jessica dragged me out, but honestly she didn't have to twist my arm too much. I hadn't been out in a really really really long time and some of my favorite dj's were spinning so why not go out and support the folks right? So, I thought about what I could do. I had these clip on Minnie Mouse ears that haven't been put to much use, so I decided to be Minnie Mouse.

So, I had to look of course for a red shirt. And the tank I'm wearing is honestly, the only red top that I have that isn't a 49ers top. And so I threw on some black shorts.

I wanted to make sure that I didn't forget the collar. In Kindergarten, I was Minnie Mouse for Halloween, my dad and I answered the door for some trick or treaters and a big kid was also Minnie Mouse, but as soon as she saw me, she realized she had forgotten her collar. I don't know why that memory resonates with me so clearly, but it does and b/c of it I wanted to be sure that I didn't forget mine. So, I went ahead with my pearl collar necklace.

I added the suspenders b/c honestly I just think they are a sexy accessory and it fit. The gloves were a last minute after thought. Minnie and Mickey are known for their white gloves, and just before Jessica and I were headed out, something clicked and I remembered that I had a pair of white lace gloves.

The makeup was quite simple. I did blush, bronzer, highlight and my eyebrows. The only thing I did that was quite different is that I extended the black eyeliner out to have 3 wings. Minnie Mouse is known for her 3 eyelashes. And of course I drew on the nose. I didn't draw any whiskers b/c Minnie doesn't have any.

Oh and the shoes. Can't forget about the shoes. You can only see a glimpse of the shoes in the first picture, but Minnie is known for her yellow shoes. So, I brought out my yellow dunks! Here are the few photos that I have from that night.

01.08.13 accessories for the day

most of these are repeats.  but i really liked my necklace which is a new addition, so i decided to post all my accessories for the day (on instagram).  and since people will probably ask where they are from i decided to write it here.  i didn't want my comment to be extremely long

the houndstooth scarf is a fairly new addition too.  i got this from one of my best friend's mom's.  she was selling them for $15 i think.

the leaf necklace, the new addition, was from forever 21 for like $5.  The longer chain had a charm on there that i didn't really like. so, i took it off and now wear it like this.

the top bracelets, you've seen many many times.  they are from my last trip to the philippines.  the black bracelet is actually my nike fuelband.  that baby was $150.

the watch, is a vintage watch that doesn't even work.  it's my mom's and i love it.  the sidecross and the faux turquoise skulls were $10 from my friend's store called 31rax in the mission.

my famous radio ring is from Swatch.  From the "Feel the Beat" line.  one of my wishes is to find the matching necklace which is a turntable.  b/c really the ring is a mixer.

the earrings, i got a long time ago and i can't remember for the life in me where they were from.  i want to say forever21 though.

basket weave scarf look

Here's another scarf tutorial for you.  This one is really quick and easy.  A simple way to have your scarf look just a little different.

I didn't know what to call this scarf look, but after looking it at it, it reminded me of how cheerleaders hold their hands for a basket toss.  Hence, the Basket Weave Scarf Look.

Here's the tutorial.  Enjoy!!!

Color changing shellac

A couple of weeks ago, I got my first color changing shellac.  It's kindda like mood nail polish, but really it just depends on the temperature.  The top hand is the cold hand the bottom hand is the warm hand.

The brand is LeChat.   Here are the colors they currently offer.  Ask your local nail salon if they have this brand.  It's a quite fun to see the colors always change. Cheap thrill, I know!

Here's the color I have now now.  Left is cold, right is warm.

the break down:

the sweater - is forever 21.  i bought it during the fall last year, i think for about $20.

the tank - is not from target!!!  haha!  if you check out my other outfit of the days my basic tank is almost always the mossimo target tank.  this is actually a body suit from american apparel.  i got is for $8 on hautelook.  you might see more of these too b/c i bought them in a lot of colors.

the skirt - is another forever 21 buy.  again, i bought this last fall, in an array of colors.  its a stretchy pencil skirt.

the shoes - TARGETTT!!!  these were only $40.  here's are two other blogs with these shoes click here or here.

the top bracelets - from hawaii.  i got these with my black and white bangle at the aloha stadium swap meet.

the other two bangles - are from the phillipines

the watch - is vintage.  it's my mom's.

outfit of the day 09.12.12

Here's my #ootd instagram post from last night.  My comment:  "adding a little fun to the corporate world"

The breakdown:

The Vest:

Does it look familiar?  It should I did another outfit of the day post with it in May.  (Click here to see it)  And, if you know me, you might have seen it in some other pictures of me.  Anyhow, it's from H&M.  I'm thinking it was around $25.  I don't really remember, but that's what I said in my other post.

White Tee:

The white tee is a vee neck from target.  I think at the time I got it, it was on sale for like $7.

Black Slacks:

The black pants are from Express.  The Editor cut.  I don't remember the Editor cut having such wide bottoms back in the day when I bought them before, but I'll work with it.

The Shoes:

The shoes are from Cathy Jean.  Do they look high?  For not having a platform, they kindda are.  5 inches to be exact.  I didn't pay more than $50 for these.  I was on a little weekend trip in Northridge and I didn't know we were going out, so I had to pick up some shoes and an outfit for the night.  I ended up with these.

The Accessories:

The blue bracelets and the white bracelet are from the Philippines.  I came up on a bunch of bangles for a really good deal.

The watch is vintage.  It's my moms.  It needs new batteries, but I just love the look of it.

The necklace is a cheapy from Forever 21.  I didn't pay more than $5 for this.

And the black and white bracelet is from Hawaii.  I got 4 for $10.

Outfit of the day - Late Post

Here's a late outfit of the day post.

The tank is from a brand called Sav-Life.  Have you been seeing this skull around lately?  (Check out the site http://sav-life.com/)  This is the 49er color scheme. I'm a faithful in case you didn't know.  And a couple of my friends are behind the brand, so I gotta support my folks.
The mustard colored skinny jeans are actually from Old Navy.  I think they were about $35.
The Toms are called Gilded Herringbone.  They were $54.

The accessories:
The top bracelet is from Hawaii.  I got it from the Aloha Swap Meet.  It was 4 for $10.  I have 3 my sister has the other.  The bottom bracelet is of course, Hello Kitty.  Its from the KLS line.  Annnddd the necklace....Oh my necklace!!!  I love this necklace!  One of my favorite pieces right now.  Another buy from Hautelook.  Ahhh Hautelook is one of my weaknesses.

Red Ombre

I can't get enough of my hair!!! I freaking LOVEEE it!

If you follow my blogs or even know me, you know I've been rocking the ombre for awhile now.  Check out my past blog for a full story - click here.

So, now that the ombre is now in full affect with everyone in the world I wanted to do it a little bit different.  I found a picture on pinterest and viola!  I now have a red to blonde ombre.
I took me sooo long to post this blog b/c I wanted a pictured that really really showed my red off.  But these will just have to do.

Here's what I looked like at the shop when I was done.  Again, the red isn't really showing as bright as it really is.  I need a camera, not my phone and I need to be in natural light.

If I take a better picture, of course it will be posted to my Instagram - melopez28 and I'll try to remember to repost here.

If you would like to contact Iya (pronounced ee-yah) for any of your hair or makeup needs, you can do so at melizza.ferrer@gmail.com.  She does any type of special events as well, weddings, prom, all that good stuff...hair and make up!

08.05.11 Outfit of the Day

Here is my outfit for today.  The shirt is actually a high-low sheer collar shirt from H&M.  I don't think it was more than $20.  The pants which aren't really showing up as the right color of green are actually a really really bright green.  Kindda reminds me of the joker from Batman, if that gives you a better sense of the tint.  These are Paris Blue.  I got them off alloy.com for about $16.  The shoes are Reef.  Reef normally makes flip flops, but I found these color block flats in Hawaii.  My glasses are real.  There are prescription lenses.  The brand is Warby Parker.  (You can read my blog and watch my video on Warby Parker here.)  The earrings are gold hoops from Claire's, probably about $8.  I found the collar necklace online on some random jewelry site for around $11 including shipping.  The ring on my right hand is a double ring from Forever, $4.  The cross and the skulls are both from 31Rax in San Francisco, $10 each.  The black thing is my Nike Fuel Band and of course the Livestrong bracelet.  If you follow me you already know about the ring on my left hand.  But, if you don't, it's a Swatch ring, from the "Feel the Beat" line.  The watch is a vintage.  It needs new batteries, but I just love the look of it.  The bangles are from the Philippines.  I bought 15 bangles and a fan all for about $10.

"spring love, come back to me"

not that i ever lost these b/c these two are new to me.  but, i love spring fashion.  and of course these shoes.  i've been on the hunt for the perfect espadrilles for the longest time.  the last pair that i remember loving were the guess paisley's.  and i bought those wayyyy back when i worked there.  oh i wish i knew where those shoes went or even could find a picture for you to see.

but i recently found these and had to get them.

the first pair, are the shoes i'm wearing in the last post.  (click here to see)  i got these at TARGET!!!   only $40.

the second pair, i got at sole society, they are called tamara.  these were only $50.  i wore an outfit earlier this week that i really wanted to show you guys with these shoes, but i just didn't get a chance to snap a photo.

also, don't be afraid to join sole society, you don't have to buy a pair every month and you are not limited to just your closet.  i found these in an email they sent.

hope you guys find your spring loves.  b/c i'm definitely enjoying mine!

Warby Parker

when i mentioned to one of my best friend's, dee, like a year and a half ago that i needed to get some new glasses she directed me to warby parker.  i loved the designs, but i wanted to see in person how they looked on my face.  they have this application, called the virtual try on, where you could upload a picture and then click on a pair of glasses and see how you looked in them.  pretty cool, but still not the real thing. and i was still apprehensive.  and there are only a couple of places in the city that carry them, and i just never made the time.

but when browsing through the site again the other day, i noticed that they now have a 5 day trial period.  you pick 5 frames and they send them to you for 5 days ... for FREEEEEEE!!!  hey you can't beat that.

and the price of the glasses is only $95 with the prescription  lenses.  ANNDDD...for every pair that's bought a person in need of glasses gets a pair too.  look at me, i've given about 9 kids in need shoes from all the toms i have and now i'm gonna give someone in need glasses.  woo hoo!  i'm such a do-gooder.  lol

wanna help me pick out my frames...

if you wanna go buy a pair and give someone else in need a pair, here's the site:  http://www.warbyparker.com/http://www.warbyparker.com/

Outfit of the Day 05.08.10

i got a new scarf from one of my best friend's, jill. and i really really wanted to wear it.  and it was so nice outside that i knew i wanted to wear a skirt.

here's the outfit i cam up with.  i'm sorry the picture quality is so bad.  i took all the pictures with my iphone and i didn't have great lighting, but you get the idea.

the shoes are from sole society so they were only $49.99.  they were called, jill.  here's my original blog post about them (click here) and it's taken me this long to finally wear them.  that's ok b/c the outfit came together quite nicely.

the skirt is from forever21.  it's one of those stretchy pencil skirts that cost about $15.  it came in so many different colors, and i definitely bought a few different colors.

the tank top is a plain black tank.  it's a the ever so famous mossimo racer back that i seem to have every color of and wear every time i document an outfit of the day.  lmao!

the cropped denim jacket was actually a gift from a couple of years ago.  i don't remember the brand, but i do remember she bought it from macy's.

and the lovely scarf, is from my friend jill.  she has a couple left for sale.  let me know if you want one.  i'll see what colors she has left and how much they are.  and i love my new way of wearing scarfs.

adding a little color to mine with some turquoise and orange...i hope i've inspired you to do the same.

brought the ombre back

a couple of years ago, i finally decided to lighten my hair.  i only trust certain people with my hair and being that my hair was virgin at the time, i was really nervous, so of course i turned to my cousin charrie.  (she is now does make up for celebrities.  check out her site:  http://charrielanette.com/
after awhile, of course, in true mel fashion, i let my hair grow out and didn't die it to cover it up.  but, i was approached by a friend and she asked me who did my ombre die.  i had to let her down and let her know that i actually just let my hair grow out.  lucky me, my hair was in fashion and i didn't even know.  lol
so i've rocked the ombre on and off for the last couple of years.  and i wanted to bring it back again.  i found a picture that i was inspired by and showed it to my friend iya.

we scheduled time before i went to coachella and this (picture below) is what she did for me.  to be honest with you, i was a little leery at first.  i am actually always like that with everything.  but, i told her to let me sleep on this before i decide to make any other changes. and i'm glad we didn't change anything.  i woke up in the morning and LOVEEEDDDD my hair.  and so did everyone else.

if you would like to contact iya for any of your hair or makeup needs, you can do so at melizza.ferrer@gmail.com.  she does any type of special events as well, weddings, prom, all that good stuff...hair and make up!
