Philippines 07.02 - 06.12

I took a vacation to the Philippines last month and I never got to blog b/c we were soooo busy everyday.  But I did get to take some snapshots with my phone, so instead I'll do a pictorial and somewhat explain the photos on the way.

Ok, if you're Filipino you already know what this is about.  If you're not, these are basically boxes of items for your friends and family in Philippines.  It's anything really.  Things you think they will like, hand-me-downs, stuff they need for the house..anything.  Kindda like donations for those that are less fortunate that you.

This was my reading material for the plane ride or any down time.  I'm actually sad that I haven't been able to pick it up much since I've been back home.

I didn't know what "wang wang" was, so I asked my mom.   Apparently, it's supposed to be the noise a siren makes.  I thought it was funny.
My first meal in the Philippines, had me some tocilog.

The lobby at Shangri-La, Makati
"crampled" but they really meant crumpled

They left this in our room. I thought it was so cute. I've never seen it this small before. I didn't even want to open it.

Here's a quick view of the best breakfast buffet ever!!!

Daily selection of freshly made juices.

A variety of fresh fruits every day

Japanese station:  sushi, sashimi, and miso soup

A large selection of all types of breads.  I made sure to stay away from that

Freshly made waffles, pancakes, french toast, and babingka

All different kinds of suman, great with fresh fruit.  I usually eat it with fresh mango.
These are all types of Filipino desserts:  cuchinta, petchi petchi, palitaw, maha blanca, biko, sapin sapin

Yogurt bar

There was so many different types of food.  And I didn't want to open all the chaffing dishes, so I'll just try to remember what was there.  There was American, like bacon, an egg station where you can order your eggs to order, hash browns, eggs, some kind of salmon benedict with asparagus, and much more.  There was Indian.  There was of course Filipino, with corned beef hash, champerado, longonisa.  There was Dim Sim.

Salad bar.  And I didn't take a picture of the cereal bar and milk bar on the back end of this.

Meat, roasted veggies, and cheese

Along with the fresh juices, they had juice shots, I think this day was celery, beets, cucumbers.  In lieu of my juicing, I usually mixes these shots and the other juices to make up for it.

I'd never had chicken longanisa before.  And I actually like this better than their pork version.

Dim Sum

Asian Soup Station

The wall says "don't pee here," so my dad decides to pretend to pee there.

Agoo (pronounced uh-goh-oh), La Union (pronounce la oon-yone) is where my dad is from

We made goody bags for the kindergarten classes at the local school and got to pass them out to all of the kids.  It really touched my heart helping these kids out.  They were all so excited to receive the goodies we provided for them.  Some were even too shy to line up.

This is my grandfather's front yard.  By looking at this, you would never know that beyond his fence is really a third world country.

Here is what we call the "late bird" class.  We made sure not to forget the kindergarten classes in the afternoon.

Later that night, my grandparents hosted a prayer with the family close by.

This fruit in Filipino is called guayobano.  It's also called soursop.  This was the first time I tried it, and I really liked it.

These are mini crabs that they serve at dinner.  I'd never seen them this little before.

Here are the humongous prawns that they also served.

Just so you can see just how big the prawns were compared to the regular shrimp.

This dessert is called binobudan.  It's basically fermented rice.  It tastes like sake, b/c it goes through the same fermentation process.  It's one of my favorites.  My grandpa made sure to have this ready for me when I arrived!!! =)

08.05.11 Outfit of the Day

Here is my outfit for today.  The shirt is actually a high-low sheer collar shirt from H&M.  I don't think it was more than $20.  The pants which aren't really showing up as the right color of green are actually a really really bright green.  Kindda reminds me of the joker from Batman, if that gives you a better sense of the tint.  These are Paris Blue.  I got them off alloy.com for about $16.  The shoes are Reef.  Reef normally makes flip flops, but I found these color block flats in Hawaii.  My glasses are real.  There are prescription lenses.  The brand is Warby Parker.  (You can read my blog and watch my video on Warby Parker here.)  The earrings are gold hoops from Claire's, probably about $8.  I found the collar necklace online on some random jewelry site for around $11 including shipping.  The ring on my right hand is a double ring from Forever, $4.  The cross and the skulls are both from 31Rax in San Francisco, $10 each.  The black thing is my Nike Fuel Band and of course the Livestrong bracelet.  If you follow me you already know about the ring on my left hand.  But, if you don't, it's a Swatch ring, from the "Feel the Beat" line.  The watch is a vintage.  It needs new batteries, but I just love the look of it.  The bangles are from the Philippines.  I bought 15 bangles and a fan all for about $10.

DHC - Moisture Care Lipstick

I've been using the DHC Moisture Care Lipstick a lot lately.  I wasn't too sure what I would think about it, especially because lipsticks normally do the opposite of moisturizing your lips.  This time I was pleasantly surprised.

The DHC Moisture Care Lipstick definitely feels moisturizing.  It feels like a chapstick or lip balm on your lips, but gives you the color of a sheer lipstick.  The color is not really "kissable" as we say, which means it will transfer if rubbed.  But, the color and moisturizing feel does last if not touched.

The color that I have is called clementine, which is a great nudeish color with a nice corally tint.  I've found myself grabbing for this a lot. Especially, because I can wear with without lip liner and it just feels hydrating on my lips while also giving a nice tint that I can wear with any look.  But, when I do wear it with lipliner, it just adds a bit more pop of color.

Here are all the colors that the DHC Moisture Car Lipstick comes in.

San Jose Giant Race 06.16.2012

I posted earlier that my whole family was doing an event together and the day finally came.  Saturday was a Family Fun Day for us, we celebrated my Dad's birthday by doing a race.

My parents did the 5k (about 3.5 miles) and my sister and I did the 5 mile.  As always we had plenty of other friends doing the event with us, so it was definitely a good time.

I finished my run at the pace that I thought I would.  But, I was a little disappointed b/c I had to stop twice to tie my shoe.  That has never happened to me before.

With our registration, we got tickets to the San Jose Giants (a minor league team) game later that night.  So, later that day we enjoyed the sun more and the game.

here are our bibs:

DHC - Deep Cleasing Oil

I've tried this product out a couple of times since I've had it.  And, I must say it is quite efficient.

The first time I tried it, I followed the directions exactly.  I pumped two squirts into my DRY hands and applied all over my face.  I then took a wash cloth with warm water and took the residual make up and oil off.  I was quite surprised with the results.  It took my make up off without having to scrub hard at all.

I then thought maybe it would be easier if I used cotton squares.  But, that didn't work out very well.  Following the directions is the way to go.

Using the Deep Cleansing Oil, make the make up feel like it's melting off your face.  I had no trouble taking off my water proof eyeliner or my mascara.  And, I didn't have to use that much force.  All you need is a light touch back and forth around your eye area.  And, what I was most surprised with was that it took the eyeliner from my lower water line off with ease.  All the other make up removers I've used usually still leave a trace amount left.  Even when I think I've gotten everything, when I wake up in the morning, I look like I've smoked out my lower lash line.  lol  I'm sure you ladies know what I'm talking about.

Your face does not feel dry and tight afterward.  And even though it is oil, you aren't left with an oily feel once you've taken the wash cloth to your face.

And, I normally wash my face after using a make up remover.  I don't need to do the second step after using this.  So, it definitely makes my night routine easier.

To try it out, place an order on dhccare.com

Please feel  free to let me know what you think about it.

new personal best

i ran the lake last night.  and i had to force myself.  i was feeling a bit lazy after work, so i knew as soon as i walked into my house i had to change into my workout clothes.  that way i wouldn't get the urge to just be lazy.

i took in a little snack, got my drink ready and stretched out a little bit.  then it was off to the lake.  but i was still feeling a bit sluggish.  i even took a quick 8 minute nap.  lol.  and then i willed myself out of the car,  did a couple more stretches and took off on a light jog.  i told myself to just take it lightly around the lake, it doesn't matter what time you get as long as you run and get the workout in.  well, i also was a bit irritated b/c i accidentally pressed the stop button at 5 seconds.  so i had to stop and start it again, but i didn't know how to reset it.  oh well.

it doesn't matter any how.  when i got closer to the end of my run, i pulled my phone out and realized i was actually making good time (for me...i'm slow).  and what do you know, i actually made new personal best.  i probably did better than what the clock shows b/c of my 5 second mishap, but who cares, I'LL TAKE IT!
